On the Road: Touring & Training Workshop for Aspiring, Emerging Artists on February 2 & 3, 2017 in Prince George
Calling All Emerging Artists- dance, theatre music, spoken word, performance artists wanting to break into new touring markets. Get prepared to take it on the road! If you are interested in touring, you may just have a few questions about how presenters, schools and festivals book their shows? Get good advice, learn from those who’ve done it, be inspired and ready to roll! Sessions are led by an accomplished group of trainers. They include managers, artists, agents and presenters and other special guests.
The BC Touring Council (BCTC), in partnership with the BC Arts Council, presents the fourth On the Road Touring Workshop for emerging performing artists on Thursday, February 2 and Friday, February 3 at the Coast Inn of The North, 770 Brunswick St, Prince George. The goal of the workshop is to increase opportunities for aspiring, emerging artists to train and work alongside creative professionals. A limited number of travel subsidies are available to those who qualify.
The two-day workshop, happening prior to the opening of the Coldsnap Festival, is intended to serve emerging artists, agents and managers interested in enhancing their knowledge about touring, ages 18 to 34 years old and are in the early stage of launching a professional career.
It will cover topics such as tour planning and prep, attending industry events & Contact Events, applying to showcase/festivals, negotiating with presenters, hiring an agent, preparing promotional materials, marketing, social media, and more. Participants are invited to participate in Pitch or Perform sessions and receive feedback from trainers. Often featured at industry events, pitch or performs offer an opportunity to promote shows and performances to presenters.

On Feb. 2, Creative BC will be hosting an info session right after our workshop (in the same room) to talk about their music funding programs AND on Feb. 3, the Coldsnap Music Festival is kicking off their festival by hosting a free outdoor concert featuring DJ Shub and from Whitehorse, Speed Control.
